Joseph Francis Hakas

October 19, 1931 — November 16, 2017

The world lost a truly great man on Thursday, November 16,2017, when Dr. Joseph Francis Hakas departed on his final journey to Heaven. Born
on October 19, 1931, to Frank and Nellie Hakes. Joe spent much of his youth on the family farm in Monroeville. He attended Turtle Creek High
School, the University of Pittsburgh, and Pitt Medical School. After graduation, he married Edith Holt in 1960 and they settled down in Chatham
village. Joe established his medical practice on Bigham Street on Mount Washington, and worked through South Side Hospital. He spent over
30 years developing his practice, caring for patients in the office and through house calls and at one point his patients numbered over 3,000.
Joe and Edith moved to Mt. Lebanon in 1961 to raise their family. Doctor Hakas was actively involved in the Allegheny County Medical Society and was a Fellow in Family Practice. After Edith's untimely death in 1992, Joe married Cynthia Kaufmann, and the two of them traveled the world. Joe and Cindy spent
a dozen great years together until her death in 2010. In 2014, Joe married Trudy (Sebastian) Cramer, and the two spent three happy years
together, remodeling the family home, watching the Steelers, and sharing coffee each morning in the sunroom. Joe continued to practice medicine part-time, traveling throughout the area for Scott Medical Center. He loved his work and helping the people he met along the way His family was the center of his
life, and he looked forward to family get-togethers. Joe is survived by his wife, Trudy; daughter, Arlene Danver (Drew): sons, Joe, Jr. (Sharon)
and David (Elizabeth); brother; Ted (Judy) Hakas: niece, Hope, grandchildren, Melanie, Maggie, David, Jr., Adam, Dan, Abigail, and Emma; also many
nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly. He will be missed by everyone, All are welcome Sunday and Monday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m, WilliAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott TWp 15220 (412·563-2800), where funeral service will be held Tuesday 11
a.rn., after which interment will be In Homewood cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Joe's name to tile Charity of their choosing.
