Age 94, of Penn Hills and Canadohta Lake, formerly of Lawrenceville, on November 10, 2020. Beloved husband of 68 years to Agnes M. (McLaughlin) DeFilippo (deceased February 1, 2018). Loving father of Joseph F. (Beverly) DeFilippo, Jr., Linda (Beth Ann Faulkner) DeFilippo, Colleen Rosky, and Lisa DeFilippo Kafferlin. Loving Grandpap of Joe, Nick, Krista, Kayla and Brittany. Cherished great-Grandpap of Isaac, Joey; Nicholas, Andrew, Giulia; Jacob, Madison, Aubree; Arianna; Aria and Everett. Predeceased by brother, James DeFilippo, and sister, Rose Corso. Survived by sister, JoAnn Porco.
Joe was a proud and patriotic World War II veteran, serving as the radio operator in B17 Bombers, which led to his lifelong love of airplanes. Barbershop music held a very special place in Joe's heart. He was a beloved member of the SPEBSQSA Pittsburgh Chapter "Three Rivers Chorus" for over 50 years, as well as singing with various quartets. Joe loved all aspects of nature. He had a green thumb and grew flowers, vegetables, and plants; enjoyed birdwatching from the front porch of the family's cottage, treasured time spent with his family pontooning on Canadohta Lake. He took great joy in sketching animals and gifting them to his adored generations of grandchildren. His love of family was evident in all he said and did. He expressed his love with encouragement, warmth and wit that flowed through the generations. Joe always loved a good fried fish sandwich and an ice cold beer, even in his final days.
