Joseph D. Brennan, 89, of Banksville, passed away on April 28, 2026. He was born on March 5, 1937 to Eugene and Matilda (Eichorn) Brennan.
Joseph passed away leaving behind a life defined by dedication, service, and love for family and community. He was the beloved husband of Margaret, who preceded him in death on December 9, 2017. Together, they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage, building a life rooted in partnership, resilience, and enduring affection. A proud Marine, he carried the values of discipline, resilience, and loyalty with him long after his time in uniform, shaping the way he lived and the example he set for others.
Joseph had a deep passion for sports, especially golf and basketball. Whether he was out on the course enjoying a quiet round or on the sidelines coaching, sports were his way of connecting with others and sharing what he loved. As a basketball coach at St. Margaret of Scotland, he mentored countless young athletes, teaching them not just the fundamentals of the game, but the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and integrity. His impact extended far beyond wins and losses- he helped shape character and build confidence in those he coached.
Above all, Joseph was a devoted family man. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren, who brought light and laughter into his life. He cherished every moment with them, creating memories that will be held close for years to come.
Joseph will be remembered for his steady presence, his generous spirit, and the love he gave so freely. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched- as a Marine, a coach, a grandfather, and a friend.
Joseph is survived by his children, Elizabeth (Richard K.) Leahew, Erin (Karin Halterman) Brennan, Christopher (Rebecca) Brennan; grandchildren, Amanda (Thomas) O’Farrell, Richard (Samantha Folmer) Leahew, Jr., Joseph (Carrie) Leahew, C.J. Brennan, Shamus Brennan, Casey Brennan; great grandchildren, Abigail O’Farell, Colin O’Farrell, Finnegan Leahew, Hadley Leahew, Jackson Leahew, and Julianne Leahew.
In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by his son, Daniel J. Brennan, and brother, Eugene Brennan, Jr.
