John (Jay) Joseph Scheider, 76, passed peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, February 22, 2017.
He was the beloved and cherished brother of Carol and Janette, uncle of David, Nathanael and Stephen, and brother-in-law of Lew and Bill.
Jay began his career as a technical writer at a law firm in Pittsburgh. He then turned to teaching history in the South Hills, and later pursued his passion for teaching reading in various programs within the Pittsburgh Public School System for nearly 30 years.
Jay was an avid golfer, as well as fisherman and bird watcher.
His sisters, Carol and Janette, their families, his nephews, grand nephews and nieces, friends, neighbors and colleagues, continue to cherish the memories of his generosity, reserved demeanor, strong, positive encouragement to others, chuckling sense of humor and his caring, good natured spirit.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages that donations be made to a stroke or heart foundation, a favorite charity, Defenders of Wildlife, Habitat for Humanity, National Geographic Society, Sierra Club, Smithsonian Giving, or the Vietnam Memorial Building Fund.
Your thoughtful prayers and condolences are greatly appreciated.
