John Prilla, of Bethel Park, originally of Arlington, unexpectedly departed this life and entered his eternal rest on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, while tenderly attended to by his hockey teammates. His loss leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of all who loved him. He lived his life with steadfast devotion, clear purpose, and tremendous heart—excelling at everything he attempted, yet always grounding his life in the people he cherished most.
He was the beloved husband of Rachel, with whom he shared a deep, inseparable bond. Nothing brought him greater pride than being a father to John and Alexis “Lexi.” Rachel and his kids were the center of his universe, his joy, and his constant companions in every part of his life. His love for them defies description.
He was the cherished son of John and Colleen, and the devoted son-in-law of Peter and Susan Barreca. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Debbie and April, whose memories he carried with him always.
He is survived by his siblings, Karen (Jon Piganelli), Kelly, Jamie (Missy), and Dani (Andrea); his brother-in-law, Chris (Candice) Barreca; many nieces and nephews, including Tess (Brady Perrucci) Gilchrist, Hannah, Abby, Levi, Tucker Prilla, and Noah Barecca, all of whom adored him. He is also survived by a large extended family, and more friends that can be counted.
A man of extraordinary talent and drive, he built a life filled with remarkable achievements. He served his country in the United States Air Force, worked as a machinist, drove for Port Authority, and also became a successful entrepreneur. John went on to become a decorated police officer, first with the City of Pittsburgh and later with Baldwin Borough, where his skill earned him a promotion to detective. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity, strength, and sharp instinct—someone who could be counted on in every circumstance.
Outside of his service, John was a fierce competitor. He was a Golden Gloves boxer, a champion weightlifter, and a natural athlete whose physical strength was matched only by his wit and intellect. Though his size could be intimidating, those who knew him understood the truth: he was deeply sensitive, loyal, and endlessly generous with his time and talents. There was nothing he would not do for the people he loved.
John adored his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, and cherished every moment spent with them. His dogs, Jack and Frank were constant companions—faithful friends he took with him everywhere, a reflection of the gentle, devoted side of him that those closest to him treasured.
John leaves behind a family who loved and admired him beyond measure and a community forever changed by his presence. His strength, talent, and devotion will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.
