Our family is full of emotion and yet joyful to announce the identification and return of Sergeant John McLaughlin, United States Marine Corps., to his proper burial at home with his family. After receiving medals of heroism in the Korean War, John was killed in battle in Korea in 1950 at age 19. Sixty-five years later, his remains have been identified from so many of those that have been buried in the grave of the unknown soldiers in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii. Our gratitude to Ms. Hattie Johnson MRPC, and the employees of our US Department of Defense who worked to identify and bring our family member home, is without bounds. John is survived by his sister, Agnes McLaughlin (Joseph) Defilippo (she is the only remaining sibling of John out of a family of ten); nieces and nephews, Joseph (Beverly) Defilippo, Linda Defilippo, Beth Faulkner, Colleen Defilippo Rosky, Lisa Defilippo (Kafferlin), Jack (Gloria) Bondi, MaryAgnes (Tom) Miller, Rich Bondi, Carol Bulsak Bondi, Mike (Kathy) Bondi, Cathleen (Frank) Notareschi, John (Janet) Wetzel, Patty (Ken) Rimkus, Tom (Nancy) Wetzel, Dan (Mary) Wetzel, Ron (Jana) Wetzel, Winnie (Jay) Stegano, Susie (Don) Weimer, Joann (Ken) Roberts, Maureen (Steve) Sterbach, Joyce (Bert) Cordell, Elaine (John) Stadelman and Jeannine Coller, the late Peter (surviving spouse, CeCe) McLaughlin.
