It's no surprise Joanne Patricia McAleer was born in sunny Miami as she seemed to radiate warmth and light throughout her entire life. Joanne spent her early childhood in Ft. Lauderdale, where a forever love of the beach began. At age 7, Joanne and her family moved North to Pittsburgh, Pa where they settled in Upper St. Clair. Joanne Graduated from St. Thomas More Elementary and Fontebonne Academy Senior High. Joanne passed away Monday, October 4, 2021.
Joanne attended West Virginia University and received her Master's Degree in Speech Pathology, but she left Morgantown with much more than a degree. WVU gave Joanne a lifelong allegiance to the WVU Mountaineers, ΔΔΔ sisters who became as close as family and the love of her life, Tracy Hough.
The college sweethearts, Tracy and Joanne, moved to Mt. Lebanon where their already vast circle of friends only continued to grow. Donned by all who knew her as the 'hostess with the mostess', there was rarely a holiday, game day or Saturday when you couldn't find 100 people in the backyard of Atlanta Drive.
Pursuing her passion of speech-language pathology, Joanne spent her life enhancing speech and communication in young children. Joanne worked at Allegheny General Hospital before transitioning to a Clinical Supervisor for Speech Pathology where she shared her knowledge with the next generation of therapists. Joanne continued her career with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit where she worked for over 20 years.
Nothing made Joanne more proud, while simultaneously driving her crazy, than her two sons, Andrew and Adam. While raising her own boys, Joanne's maternal love reached far beyond her biological children. Considered 'a mother of all', Joanne's nurturing nature knew no bounds as many of Andrew and Adams friends consider her a second mom. Joanne opened her family and her heart to a daughter when Andrew married his wife, Stephanie and quite possibly nothing could compare to the love Joanne showed her granddaughter, Reagan.
Joanne's life was filled with countless friends, family, Billy Joel, vacations to Sunset Beach, Mountaineer Tailgates and the loyalty and endless love of her husband, Tracy. She touched all who were blessed to know her.
Joanne is survived by her husband Tracy, her sons Andrew and Adam, her daughter-in-law Stephanie, her granddaughter Reagan, her siblings Jane, Jack, Jim and Judy, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
