Mt. Lebanon

Joan Z. Wylie of Mt. Lebanon passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, at the age of 97. Born January 27, 1929, in Freeport, Long Island, New York, she was daughter of the late Joseph and Marion P. Zainor. She was married for 64 years to her college sweetheart, William H. Wylie, who passed away in 2015.

She taught first and second grade for 18 years at Kelton School in Dormont, in the Keystone Oaks School District. She also taught at Hillsdale School and at schools in Binghamton, New York and Merrick, Long Island. She enjoyed working with young children and especially cherished the friendship of her teaching colleagues who she remained close with after retirement.

Joan graduated from Freeport High School in 1946 and Allegheny College in 1950, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She was the loving mother of Carol J. Wylie and Stephen P. Wylie; and loving aunt of Joseph and Linda McGrath, Susan and Mike Owen, Martha and David Spicer, Thomas and Barbara McGrath. She was preceded in death by her sister Catherine Z. McGrath, brother-in-law Jack McGrath, and daughter-in-law Patricia J. Casteel. She was a long-time member of Wallace Memorial Church (now Unity Presbyterian Church) in Greentree.
