Age 89, of Green Tree, died peacefully on Thursday, November 15, 2018 after a long illness for which she showed much grace and courage. Beloved wife for 68 years of Norman C. Rosfeld; cherished mother of Alison Strome (William) and Arden Vernacchio; adored Nan to Will, Sara, and Peter Strome, Emily Snyder (Joshua) and Robert Vernacchio; dear sister of James McGough (Mildred); and many nieces and nephews. Jean was born in 1929 to the late Mary (Cooke) and James Marshall McGough. Graduated from Wilkinsburg High School and Carnegie Tech (CMU) school of painting and design, while there she met a handsome fellow art student, Norman, and they were married in 1950. A gifted artist, she combined her considerable talent with her love of children as an art teacher. She taught in the Wilkinsburg Schools until her daughters were born and then resumed teaching at the Western PA School for the Deaf for 18 years. She was an extraordinary mother, a friend to many, fabulous hostess, avid painter, and wonderful Nan to her five grandchildren. She was adored for her great humor and kind heart, her love of animals, her sense of style and her artistic eye. Our dear Jean will be deeply missed and in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 328 6th Ave., Pittsburgh, 15222, on Wednesday, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Rd., Pittsburgh, 15237. The family wishes to thank Asbury Heights and Family Hospice staff for their loving and compassionate care.
