Janis A. Davis

April 26, 1938 — September 14, 2025

Age 87, of Providence Point, on Sunday, September 14, 2025. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nine years, Robert William Davis, her parents William H. Markham and Katherine (Henkel) Markham and former husband of 46 years, Dr. Robert Gary O’Brien, the father of her children. Janis is survived by her daughter Margaret Ann O’Brien; her son Robert O’Brien (Tara) and their sons (Tommy and Danny); and son Terrence (T.J.) O’Brien, his former wife Julie, and their children (Jack and William). Also survived by Robert Davis’s children, Bruce (Melissa) and their children, Kelly and Kevin (Kaitlin); daughter Betsy Hohlfelder (Alan) and their children, Erin Hohfelder (Ian McCollum) and Ben (Alyssa); Carol Keller (Bill) and their children, Alex, Jacob, and Jessica, and her late husband’s great grandchildren. 

Janis grew up in Brentwood. After graduating from high school, she matriculated to Baldwin Wallace College and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, where she also attended graduate school. She briefly taught Spanish for Brentwood School District, married and raised her family in Upper St. Clair. Janis was a person of deep faith and active at Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was a member for over 57 years. She chaired the Endowment and Special Gifts Committee and served on two PNCs (Pastor Nominating Committees). She was ordained at various times as both Deacon and Elder. Janis also served as chair of Town Hall South and supported SHIM (South Hills Interfaith Movement). Janis was an avid traveler visiting dozens of countries across six continents. A member of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), she traveled the country to participate in duplicate bridge tournaments, achieving Bronze Life Master status. Janis was a member of St. Clair Country Club, where she gathered with friends and family over many years. Always active, Janis was an avid sports fan, cheering for various Pittsburgh and University of Pittsburgh teams as well as the University of Notre Dame. Janis enjoyed the performing arts, supporting the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Public Theater. As an accomplished cook and host, Janis entertained family and many friends throughout her life. 

Family and friends are welcome to a Memorial Service, 1:30 PM, Sunday, September 28, 2025, in Providence Point Chapel, 500 Providence Point Blvd., Scott Twp., 15243, Rev. Laura Bentley officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Endowment and Special Gifts Fund or the Janis Davis Scholarship Fund at Providence Point.
