Janet Marie Perry, 90, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on the evening of February 3, 2025, with her devoted husband of 70 years, Calvin, by her side.
Born on July 13, 1934, to Margaret and William Meyer Sr., Janet was the youngest of three children. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dorothy Whetzel.
At the tender age of five, Janet experienced the profound loss of her mother, Margaret. Alongside her siblings, William and Dorothy, and father, she navigated life with resilience, strength, and an enduring spirit that would come to define her.
In the early 1950s, Janet worked for Bell Telephone before fate intervened, bringing her and Calvin together on a blind date. It was the start of a lifelong love story. They married on October 9, 1954, and built a beautiful life together, raising four children—Daniel, John, Susan, and Judy—instilling in them the values of faith, kindness, and unwavering love.
In 1978, Janet began working at Kaufmann’s Department Store in the Telephone and Order Department, where her dedication and hard work led her to a supervisory role. She retired at 62, but soon found herself back at work, joining a close-knit group of women who processed month-end reports for Mellon Bank for another decade.
Janet was a gifted cook and baker, a talented seamstress, and a woman of profound faith. She was the heart of her family—kind, caring, and always present for those she loved. Her warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed, but forever cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Along with her parents, William and Margaret, and sister, Dororthy, Janet is preceded in death by her brother-in-law Howard Whetzel Sr. and sister-in-law Christina Meyer.
Janet is survived by her loving husband, Calvin, and sons, Daniel Perry (Karen) and John Perry (Roberta), daughters, Susan Duke (William) and Judy Hrehorovich (Apollo), and grandchildren Maura Tillotson (Lee), Meghan Perry Powell (Morgan), Michelle Perry Milligan (John), Roberta Conrad (Justin), Michael Perry (Maribeth), Erin Croley (Marcus), Stephen Duke (Carla), Brian Duke, Sharon Duke (James Holbrook), Cassandra Hrehorovich and Nicholas Hrehorovich as well as 12 great-grandchildren. Janet is also survived by her brother William Meyer Jr. as well as many nieces and nephews.
