In Loving Memory of Jim Quinn

Jim Quinn, a cherished Pittsburgh radio icon, passed away March 29, 2025 at the age of 82. Born on February 26, 1943 in New Jersey, Jim's incredibly diverse and influential broadcasting career spanned many decades, leaving an unforgettable mark on the radio industry and Pittsburgh as a whole.

A remarkable father, partner and a friend to all, Jim brought light and joy to everyone fortunate enough to have met him. His passing leaves a void in our hearts that will never be filled, but the legacy he leaves behind is a profound lesson to all when it comes to living a full and wholesome life.

Jim's spirit and adventurous nature took him around the country as a DJ, but he claimed Pittsburgh as his true home. Jim spent years at KQV in the 60's and 70's. He would go on to take jobs at stations in Dayton, New York City and Philadelphia, but would return to KQV soon after. He then moved to Buffalo, New York in the late 1970s to work for WKBW. However, Pittsburgh brought him home in 1977, where he moved on to work at radio powerhouses like WTAE and B-94, before successfully reinventing himself as a political talk show host with his co-anchor Rose. Alongside his extensive and successful career in radio, Jim was also a pilot, an excellent cook and was always captivated by science and technology.

Jim's patriotism and love for his country ran deep. He took immense pride in America and its ideals. An incredibly generous man, Jim always put everyone before himself. His selflessness was a beacon in an otherwise sometimes dark and turbulent world. He was a devout animal lover who cherished his cats. As a father, he took massive pride in his two children, and his unwavering support of them shaped their lives and values in countless ways.

Although Jim has left this world, his incredible spirit, unwavering devotion to God and unrelenting selflessness will continue to inspire so many who had the opportunity to hear his warm and comforting voice, whether over the airwaves or in person. He lived a bold and incredibly diverse life, caring deeply for his friends, family and listeners alike. He loved radio because it created an intangible connection to his cherished listeners that supported him. When the microphone cracked open on his final broadcast in early February, he explained this phenomena on-air to the world, exclaiming that we may never understand the magic behind it all.

Jim is survived by his loving partner, Cathi Sabolcik; his sister, Mary and her husband, Wit Margaret; his loving daughter, Alexandra Quinn; his dedicated son, Collin and his son's husband, Cody Quinn; and his son, Mike Belajac; his nieces and nephews, Megan, Evan, and Stacie; and his loyal and long distinguished friend, Rose Tennant.  Also, godparents, Aldona and Diane Zilinskas.
