James "Jim" Joseph O'Donoghue, age 88, of Mt. Lebanon, originally from Ballacolla, County Laois, Ireland, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 12, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.
Born in 1937, Jim was the fourth of six children of Michael and Brigid "Bridie" O'Donoghue. He is preceded in death by sisters, Maureen Hoolan (O'Donoghue), Sister Carmel O'Donoghue, Imelda Tierney (O'Donoghue); and by brothers, Canon Brendan O'Donoghue and John Donohoe.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia "Pat" O'Donoghue (Drogos); his sons, John O'Donoghue (Candace John), and Brian O'Donoghue (Camille Fetter); his grandchildren, Finn James O'Donoghue, Holden John O'Donoghue, Henry James O'Donoghue, and Penelope Fetter Cole; and sister-in-laws, Margaret Donohoe and Catherine Jakubowski. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, relatives, and friends whom he loved dearly.
Jim immigrated to the United States in 1962, initially settling in Miami, Florida, before relocating to Pittsburgh, where he met his beloved wife, Pat, and together they raised their family. Jim worked at the Indiana County Guidance Center in Indiana, Pennsylvania for 22 years, ultimately as the Executive Director, before his retirement in 1997. In his retirement, Jim and Pat lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Chicago, Illinois, Fort Myers, Florida, and Venice, Florida, with numerous return trips to his homeland of Ireland. Regardless of where life took him, Jim remained a loyal fan of Notre Dame and Pittsburgh Steelers football.
Throughout his life, Jim’s greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends—whether through conversation, laughter, or providing counsel to loved ones of all ages. Above all, Jim cherished his 50-year marriage to Pat---his partner, muse, and nurse. Jim was the embodiment of a family man, and his infectious warmth, humor, and wisdom will be missed by all who knew him.
