Ida Rizzo, 93, died peacefully, on Wednesday, August 16 at 5:23AM joining her husband Lawrence (Duffy) and son Lawrence (Larry) in heaven. Ida was born in Pittsburgh to Elisa and Donato Oresti. She and her twin Gioconda were the oldest of 4 siblings. Ida was the last to survive.
She worked for the B&O Railroad for many years as a traffic controller before becoming a devoted wife and mother. Ida had a zany, unorthodox approach to life and truly made every situation into comedy, usually unintentionally. It was very important to her to give back to the community and so she volunteered tirelessly for numerous organizations. She spent more than a decade in the greenhouse at the Western Center using gardening to help special needs children. She was also instrumental in organizing the May Mart at St. Bernard's church which helped generate much needed revenues for the church and school. One of her last causes was helping at the Jubilee Kitchen. She received The Citizen of the Year award in 1998 for volunteer work.
Ida loved her garden, her antiques, and all forms of animal prints, chocolate and popcorn.
She truly valued her family, her faith and her many friends of all ages. Everyone who she touched has an "Ida story".
Ida is survived by her son Daniel and his husband Sillvo Trioni, her son Matthew and his wife Mollie Butler.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Bernard's church in Mt. Lebanon on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10:00.
The family requests no flowers or donations but rather keep a fond memory of Ida in your heart.
