Age 81, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023, surrounded by his wife, Julie; his daughter, Erika (Jeremy); and his sons, Kristian (Kaiti) and Damian (Leah). Beloved “Baba” of Ben, Malia, Olivia, Serenity, Harper, Eliana, Vivianne, and Hanna. Loving companion to his dear goldendoodle, Stella. Preceded in death by his faithful schnauzer Sophie, his parents, and his sisters.
Born in Europe, Ian spent his childhood on the island of Anguilla before emigrating to Long Island as a teenager. As an adult, Ian settled in Louisiana where he fell in love with the spice of the south: Cajun food, folk dancing, and Julie, his wife of 47 years. Together, they raised their family in Baton Rouge and, later, Pittsburgh, where Ian became an adopted Steelers fan.
Ian had a passion for tattoos, dragons, and motorcycles, especially his Honda Valkyrie. He enjoyed working on his bike and cruising the back roads of Pennsylvania and Ohio. After a long career with FedEx as a computer programmer, he spent his retirement tinkering with the latest and greatest gadgets. Keeping up with technology, Ian was a wiz on his MacBook and with Alexa devices. He enjoyed reading, his Kindle never far from reach, and he was rarely seen outdoors or on one of his many trips to Costco without his trademark hat.
Generous with his time for home repairs and yard work, one of Ian’s favorite sayings was, “I’ll send ya the bill!” – yet those bills never came. He will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him. The family will receive visitors on Thursday October 26, 2023 at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp., 15220, from 4-6pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Urban Impact , or The Cleveland Rape Crisis Center.
