Howard Vincent Malloy, 77, of Beechview, Pittsburgh, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022. Son of the late Francis Xavier and Genevieve Malloy. Beloved Husband of Janet Wagner Malloy for 54 years. Loving Father of Colleen (Steve) Salvatore, Shawn (Gayle) Malloy, Jennifer (Brian) Altvater and Matthew (Amy) Malloy. Grandfather to Alexis, Nicholas, Francesca, Griffin, Alayna, Aubrey, Finnegan and Makenzie. Brother of Thaddeus (Audrey) Malloy, Mary Ann (Robert) Mathias, Francis (belated Matilda) Malloy, belated James (Marcia) Malloy, and Patricia (belated Carl) Sorenson. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews. It was once remarked, “Only a life lived for others is worth living.” Howard Malloy has exemplified this philosophy throughout his personal and professional life. His life’s commitment to service has always reflected his personal values – family, friendship, community, and life experiences. He served 4 years in the United States Coast Guard. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. Serving 28 years as a Pittsburgh Police Officer was more than a job, it became a lifetime commitment. Howie served as a delegate for the Fraternal Order of Police for 20+ years, received his 50th year membership in 2019 as part of the 1968 class, served as the President of the Veterans FOP Association for 13 years and was the esteemed recipient of the Pat McNamara Award for volunteering. He also worked 10 years for U.S. Airways in corporate security. Howie’s love for family knew no bounds. He had a passion for cooking, celebrating holidays, birthdays, vacations and family time. The family could be found devouring homemade gnocchi, pies, and such, then dancing along to his favorite 50’s tunes. When his kids were growing up, if he wasn’t working, coach Howie could be found on the field or court coaching baseball and basketball. Attending his grandchildren’s sporting and musical events were some of his favorite pastimes. Howie and Jan enjoyed traveling the world and sharing many adventures together. Biking the city, golfing and watching classic movies were some of his favorite hobbies. Howie’s booming voice and infectious laugh could always be heard sharing breakfast with his buddies, reminiscing about the good ol’days, playing cards with the gang or strategizing playing dominos with their close friends and traveling companions. Howie lived BIG and loved BIG! He will be missed by many! We were blessed to have him our lives!
Irish Blessing
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
