Helen Rose (Zagorsky) Popivchak

Helen Rose Popivchak (nee Zagorsky) passed away peacefully at her home in Scott Twp., surrounded by family on November 20th at the age of 96. She was born on September 3rd, 1924 in Bridgeville as the first child of the late Michael and Anna (Waypa) Zagorsky, raised in Carnegie, and was a Scott resident for the last 56 years. She married her High School sweetheart, John Popivchak, on October 5th, 1947, and together they raised five children. Helen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend. She loved God and her church, and was a member of the Apostleship of Prayer and a "Pyrohi Lady" for many years. She and John enjoyed traveling, visiting the Holy Land, Fatima, Lourdes, and Alaska, among other places. She will be greatly missed, but those who love and adore her are comforted knowing that she in now in the Lord's care with her beloved husband of 61 years who preceded her.

She is survived by her children David (Rochelle) Popivchak, Carol (John) Besspiata, Robert (Carolyn) Popivchak, Mark Popivchak, and Dennis (Coleen) Popivchak, grandchildren Justin (Ameera) Besspiata, Kristen (Dave) Bucar, Caitlin (Jonathan) Smith, John (Erika) Popivchak, Rachel, Courtney, Sarah, and Jessica Popivchak, great-grandchildren Maya, Aria, and Keira Besspiata, sister Jean Daniels, sister-in-law Rose Zagorsky, niece Kathy Popivchak, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Maranich and brother, Walter Zagorsky.

There will be no public viewing. A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday at 10 AM at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, 730 Washington Avenue, Carnegie. Due to the pandemic, those attending mass will be required to wear masks and follow social-distancing practices. Interment will be private at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
