Gloria Kohnberg Leston passed away peacefully, August 6, 2020. Born in New York City in 1928, she never lost her accent even after nearly 70 years in Pittsburgh. Loving wife and inveterate ski partner of the late (though never late in life) Dr. Gerd Leston. Beloved mother and staunch supporter of Laura and Jeffrey (Jane), proud and adoring grandmother of Joanna and Adam and ever-present Aunt Goggie to Karen, (the late) Steven (Kathy) and Erin (Courtney) Baskin. Also survived by nieces and nephews, some by birth and others by love. She will be remembered for her art, irreverent opinions, defense of family and friends and her love.
Her philosophy of life was a metaphor of skiing. "When you get to the top of the hill and look down, it is steep and uneven, filled with moguls and maybe some icy spots. Just take one bump at a time. Then you can look back with pride (and relief) on the hill you conquered."
A celebration of her life will be arranged when we can do it properly. She was a great supporter of organizations for women and children, immigrants and refugees and progressive social issues. If you wish to honor her, choose your favorite.
