George S. Jones

Emblem

Age 95, passed away surrounded by his family at his home on February 18.  Beloved husband of 70 years to the late Louise M. Jones and devoted father to Susan (Dr. George) Berg, Dan (Janet) Jones, Kathy (Bruce) Patterson, Scott (Linda) Jones and the late George Jones Jr. (surviving spouse Linda); he was the cherished grandfather to thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Born in Regent Square, George was preceded in death by his parents, William P. and Kathryn (Kramer) Jones, and brothers William and Thomas.  Following graduation from Swissvale High School he enlisted in the Navy during WWII. After discharge, he enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh to study Civil Engineering. In 1949, George married the love of his life, Louise, and began his family and a 55-year career in the construction industry starting as a union carpenter. In 1985 he co-founded a fire and water damage consulting and restoration company, G.S. Jones and Son, with his son Dan and shortly after, his son Scott joined as a partner. George was a 60 year member of Our Lady of Grace Church, where he served as an usher. He was also a long-time member of Chartiers County Club, where he enjoyed many years of golf and family gatherings. He loved backyard barbeques, coaching his sons’ baseball teams, summer vacations on the beaches of Lake Erie and Stone Harbor, NJ and his many trips with Louise to Cape Cod and their extensive cruises around the world. He was an avid gardener and the consummate Mr. Fix It. His kids and grandkids looked up to him and knew they could rely on him for his sage advice. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the aides and nurses at Friendship Village Assisted Living and Gallagher Hospice Care, who gave attentive and comforting care in the final weeks of his life, and especially to Darla, who gave loving and steadfast care to our father and mother throughout the last five years.
