Age 85 of West End, Pittsburgh, (Chicken Hill), on Saturday January 8, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Joanne (Collins) Bassler. Survived by his former wife Sharon (Voll) Bassler and his loving girlfriend, Nancie Smith and their dog, Bridgett. Dear father of Deborah (Carl) DiGristina, Mary Louise (Lloyd) Page, George C. (Linda) Bassler, Jr., Kurt (Meredith) Bassler and the late Brian (surviving spouse Keith Walters) Johnson. Loving grandfather of Michelle, Lloyd, Jr., Natalie, Patrick, Nathan, Daniela, Carson, and Georgia. Great grandfather of Lilliana, Riley, Cali, Ellie, Addison, Leah, Colbin, Olivia, Paxton, and Ethan. Brother of the late Ronald (surviving spouse, Carole) Bassler. Pap will be remembered as the most stubborn man that ever lived. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren almost as much as he hated Steelers' quarterbacks and Brett Farve. You could find him at Johnny's Diner every morning sitting in the same booth and ordering the same breakfast. He was always wearing a Bassler Construction shirt with a hat accessorized with a straw in his mouth. On the weekends, he would spend his time in Marienville constructing some type of building, tinkering with the pond, and talking about the good old days. On Sundays, he would bring diabetes in the form of doughnuts or ice cream to his grandchildren while sitting in the recliner alternating between arguing about everything and nothing, napping, and enjoying his family. Family and friends are welcome Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE (412-563-2800), 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp., 15220, where a Blessing Service will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow in Green Tree Cemetery. www.slaterfuneral.com.
