Frederick A. Hoerster

August 11, 1928 — December 7, 2024

Green Tree

Frederick A. Hoerster, age 96, of Green Tree. Loving husband of the late Lois A. (Killmeyer) Hoerster. Beloved father of Frederick J. (Mary) Hoerster and Laura (Joseph) O’Keeffe. Survived by dear sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Rita Hoerster, Carol Killmeyer, and Timothy (Amy) Killmeyer and many nieces and nephews. Born in Elliott, Fred graduated from St. Martin High School and the University of Pittsburgh. He served in the U.S. Army prior to his long career as a civil engineer, most of which was spent at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Throughout his life, Fred’s greatest joy was music. Beginning as a boy soprano in the choir at St. Martin, he developed a beautiful bass-baritone voice and sang in the choirs at Ss. Simon and Jude and St. Raphael the Archangel Parishes. He livened many family gatherings over the years with his voice and his accordion, organ, and piano playing skills. Fred is predeceased by his cherished parents, Julius and Maria (Mansmann) Hoerster and his beloved siblings Julius (late Georgie) Hoerster, Ruth Hoerster, Mary Ann (late Stanley) Uminski, and Leo (Rita) Hoerster. Throughout his life, Fred was known for his happy disposition, kind eyes and smile, mischievous sense of humor, and devout Catholic faith. Although predeceased by many friends, Fred continued to endear himself to his children’s friends and all the healthcare providers and devoted caregivers who assisted him in living a joyful life even as his health declined in recent years. “There are three things that endure: faith, hope, and love, and the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13)
