Frank Anthony Yarussi, MD, 80, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 25, 2018, surrounded by his loving wife and family, after a long struggle with cancer.
Frank was a star athlete at Scott Township High School and Bethany College. He went on to graduate from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and served as a flight surgeon in the 615th Tactical Fighter Squadron, US Air Force during the Vietnam War. After finishing his military service at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C., he returned to Pittsburgh where he practiced radiology first at Divine Providence then at Canonsburg General Hospital ("CGH") for over forty years. He served on the Board of Directors at CGH and also as Chief of Staff for several terms. Over the years, he generously contributed to the building and expansion of CGH. He was a principal in the development of Corporate Air Management, a licensed pilot and a constant traveler.
Always adventurous in spirit, he enjoyed life to the fullest. He never missed an opportunity to ski, scuba dive, play a round of golf or spend time with family and friends. A true Renaissance man, he loved and collected art, literature, history, and music. In the last several years, he spent time in Argentina, where his days were filled with horseback riding, exploring the many local vineyards, and golfing. Despite his many passions, his real joy came from the company of his family and wide circle of dear friends. His unwavering strength and joy for life inspired everyone who loved him.
Frank was the beloved husband of Katherine Senko, loving father to Karen King (Eric), Jill Brady (Dan), Steven Yarussi, and Susan Yarussi (John), caring brother to Marlene McGaffic (Gary) and Denise Tacka (Chet) and devoted grandfather to eleven grandchildren.
