Frank John Hynes

Age 91, died with family by his side, April 23 in Castle Shannon, Pennsylvania. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 26, 1923, to the late Benjamin Franklin and Winifred Urban Hynes. His childhood was spent in Darby, PA, but he lived most of his adult life in West Chester, Pennsylvania with his late wife of 62 years, Mary Alverda Eichenlaub Hynes. He is survived by his son Bruce (Kathleen) Hynes, daughters Beth (Mark) Pickering, Barbara (Robert) Myers, and Beverly (Dan) Collins; grandfather of Emily (Ryan) Samuels, Mary Hynes, Christopher Pickering, Kevin (Jeanne) Pickering, Robert Myers, Christine Myers, Bailey Collins, and Ryan Collins. Great Grandfather of Elley and Hannah Samuels and Michael Pickering. Frank was a devoted Catholic, and was a long-time member of Saints Simon and Jude parish in West Chester, PA, where he was a lector. Frank greatly enjoyed visits with his family and his wide network of friends, all of whom enjoyed his gentle, quiet manner and his sense of humor. Frank and Alverda traveled widely in their RV beginning in the 1960's with family vacations. During retirement they wintered in Pharr, Texas. Frank served in the Army 23rd Signal Heavy Construction Battalion during WW II, including service in China, India, and Burma building and maintaining communication lines through the jungle. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he completed his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Drexel University on the GI Bill. Frank was a Certified Public Accountant; he worked as an accountant and business manager throughout his professional career. His other interests included square dancing, reading, boy scouts, fishing, tools and hardware, DIY maintenance and building projects, and music/entertainment. After retirement, Frank became a highly accomplished wood carver, leaving behind many artifacts that are cherished by his family.
