Frank ‘’Mike’’ Joseph Hepler, 75, passed away peacefully with family by his side on December 23, 2023.

He was born on October 16, 1948, in McKees Rocks, PA. Mike is survived by his three children, Jennifer, Jeremy (Colleen) and Michael (Amanda) along with 5 grandchildren, Alex, Katie, Phoenix, Elizabeth and Max, his brother Andrew (‘’Dink’’), his sister Eleanor, many nieces and nephews, his former wife and mother of his children, Lovina and companion, Michelle.

He is preceded in death by his mother Rita, father Raymond, sister Mary and brother Raymond.

Mike’s life was an inspiration for many. A Vietnam War veteran, he was in the Army from 1966 to 1969. As a Staff Sergeant, Mike served in B Troop, 1st Squadron, 1st Calvary.

During his years of service, Mike received multiple awards including a Silver Star, Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star with V device, a Purple Heart and the Vietnamese Cross for Gallantry. He also received the Gen. Matthew Ridgway Award at the annual West Point Founders Day dinner and was inducted into Soldiers & Sailors Hall of Valor. 

He also was awarded the F.B.I. National Community Leaders Award, inducted into the International Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame, and earned the United States Marshal Community Service Award.

As a civilian, Mike dedicated his life to the Boys and Girls Club - working in PA, Ohio, NY and finally back in PA for the Boys and Girls Club of Western PA where he was the CEO and retired after 50 years of service. His thoughtful leadership along with his own exemplary life journey improved the lives of thousands of children and adults.

Family and friends are welcome Thursday 2-7 p.m., WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp., 15220 (412-563-2800). 

A short, private graveside ceremony will be held for the immediate family.
