Fernando Abbondanza, 86, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026. Fernando was born in Roseto Degli Abruzzi, Italy to Raffaele and Maria (Torrieri) Abbondanza. In 1970, Fernando married his loving wife Angela (Lorusso) Abbondanza, who has since passed. Fernando is leaving behind a legacy shaped by his deep Italian roots, his passions, and his unwavering love for family and friends. He found joy in the simple and meaningful moments of life.
A man of many passions, Fernando enjoyed cooking and making homemade wine or sauce. He found joy tending to his garden and most especially being with his family and friends. He was a familiar and beloved presence at the Alpine Hunting and Fishing Club and liked spending time at his camp in Tionesta. To him, these moments- good food, drink, and being with those he loved were life's greatest treasures.
His warmth, generosity, and strong work ethic touched all who knew him. Fernando was a proud member of Construction General Laborers' Local Union No. 373, where he built a career rooted in hard work and integrity. He took immense pride in his craft and the brotherhood of his union.
Above all, Fernando will be remembered for his deep devotion to his family. He cherished every moment spent with them and his love and presence will be deeply missed but forever carried in their hearts. Fernando is survived by his daughter, Rita (William) McClafferty, son, Fernando (Jennifer) Abbondanza, Jr., grandchildren, John William McClafferty and Giuliana Marie Abbondanza. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Antonietta (Benito) DiDomenico. Family and friends are welcome on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 6-8pm and Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 2-4, 6-8pm at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE,1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp., (412-563-2800). A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, 10am at St. Bernard Church, 311 Washington Rd., Pittsburgh, 15216, (St. Michael the Archangel Parish). Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery & Mausoleum, McMurray.
