Fern E. Winans

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away at the age of 77, on the morning of Sept 17, 2021. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Lawrence, who passed away in March 2020.

She was born on December 20, 1943, the oldest daughter of the late Dr. John and Fern Guehl. Surviving her are three children, Larry (Xana) Winans, Cindy (Jack) Munch, and Michelle (Ray) Ziolkowski. Her grandchildren, Ryder and Savannah Winans and Aiden and Zoe Ziolkowski were a true joy in her life. She always enjoyed seeing and hearing about them participating in all their various sports and activities. Also survived by her siblings, John, Johanna, and Allysn; and the many nieces and nephews who appreciated their "Aunt Fern". She was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan-not sure which she enjoyed more, the Steelers or the Penguins, but she rarely missed watching a game. Everywhere she went in Pittsburgh, Fern knew somebody. Fern found delight in the simplest things and had a light in her eyes when she saw someone she knew. The infectious smile was her trademark. Kind and caring, she was always looking out for others. She truly cared about those around her and will be missed by many. We were blessed with her presence, and she will be missed. May a part of her joy and enthusiasm live within us.
