Evelyn Virginia Laverick, age 96, died on Saturday, November 17, 2018 in the Providence Point retirement community in Scott Township. She was born in Pittsburgh as the youngest of three children to Italian immigrants, Pietro and Libra Carrera. After graduating from Perry High School, she attended the Business Training College (which eventually became Point Park University) for 2 years. Following her training, she began her career as a secretary at Steel City Electric in Pittsburgh. She met her future husband in 1947. Evelyn and Walter married in August of 1951. The couple built a house in Greentree and lived there for the rest of their married life. They had one child, Walter. Evelyn reentered the work force and served as an administrative assistant at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for many years. She left her position to take care of her ailing husband, who passed at the age of 98. During her long and energetic life, she was an avid bowler (high score 286), an active member of the Greentree Women's Civic Club, a volunteer at the Marion Manor Nursing Home, member and Deacon of the Mount Pisgah Memorial Church. Perhaps the role that left her most proud was that of grandmother to her only grand-daughter Lauren. They shared a special and loving relationship. Evelyn is survived with loving remembrance by her son Walter, daughter-in-law Jo Ann and grand-daughter, Lauren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Walter, brothers Hector, and Wilfred. She empowered everyone around her with love, faith, and laughter. Evelyn will be remembered as a shining light by all the people she touched, especially her friends and care givers at Providence Point.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 29th at 1:30pm in the Providence Point Chapel. 500 Providence Point Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15243
