Evelyn M. Harper

Age 96, of Scott Township on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.  Evelyn was born in Hardy County, West Virginia on November 22, 1927.  She was the daughter of the late Benjamin D. and Belle (Delawder) Miller of Baker, West Virginia.  Beloved wife of the late Roy G. Harper; loving mother of Kevin L. (Gladys) Harper, and loving grandmother of Benjamin (Kate) Harper.  She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was predeceased by three sisters, Marie Harding, Maud Fenn, and Wilma Lee Miller, and nieces, Delores Wells and Ann Jolley.  She was an elementary and secondary school teacher for 41 years, teaching in West Virginia, Illinois, and Pennsylvania schools.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Shepherd University, Shepherdstown, West Virginia, her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Pittsburgh, and did extra graduate work at Duquesne University and the University of Illinois.

A private funeral service was held at William Slater II Funeral Service, Scott Twp., 412-563-2800, followed by internment in the Jefferson Memorial Cemetery.  

Evelyn’s family would like to thank the staff of the HealthCare Unit at Providence Point, and the staff of Gallagher Hospice for the wonderful care that they provided to Evelyn.
