Eugene “Gene” Haffics 99 years old, a man of Faith passed to his Heavenly home with Jesus Christ July 14, 2022, after a sudden illness.

Married to the late Mildred Ann Kirchner Haffics for 65 years. Survived by his children Kevin John Haffics and Lynne Ann Haffics.

Gene was born was born July 10th, 1923, to John Haffics (Havics) and Mary Haffics (Pravy). Growing up in West Park, Gene was an outstanding student athlete at  Stowe High School. Before graduating Gene started working at Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel company contributing to World War 2 efforts.

Joining the Army March 1944, Gene was assigned to the 745th Tank Battalion company B attached to the American First Army (The Big Red One) as infantry support.

After intense fighting, surviving numerous battles, his tank was blown up November 24th, 1944, by a superior German 88 shell in Eschweiler Germany. Severely wounded, Gene was awarded The Purple Heart, and Battle Star in addition to his war medals. After a lengthy recovery, Gene was honorably discharged May 1946.

Gene earned an Accounting Degree from Duquesne University in 1950. He joined the IRS as a tax auditor. During his career he rose to the rank as a top Corporate Tax Auditor for the IRS.

After retiring from the IRS in the early 1980’s, Gene was recruited as a private tax consultant assisting Allegheny International. 

Gene married Mildred Ann  Kirchner in 1950, and raised 2 children, Kevin John Haffics, and Lynne Ann Haffics.

Gene Enjoyed family life providing for his family, and especially annual beach trips to Wildwood Crest New Jersey. He was a wonderful faithful father, husband,and friend. He truly led a faithful blessed life. His presence will be missed.

Eugene Haffics is survived by his loving children Kevin John Haffics and Lynne Ann Haffics.  Visitation and services will be private by the family.  Burial will be in Chartiers Cemetery.
