Elizabeth B. Pitt

February 9, 1928 — October 8, 2025

Scott Twp.

Elizabeth “Libby” Barbara (Chalovich) Pitt, age 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Kane Community Living Center-Scott after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on February 9, 1928, in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Josephine (Sector) Chalovich, both of whom predeceased her.

Elizabeth was a loving mother to Pamela (Bob) Tracy, a cherished grandmother to Marisa (Derek) Watt and Bobby Tracy and beloved great grandmother to Trace Watt. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Pitt, and nine siblings. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Libby was a true survivor. At the age of 16, she was seriously injured in a tornado and hospitalized, subsequently leaving high school to support herself as a housekeeper in Squirrel Hill. She married her husband, Harry, at the age of 21 and relocated from southwestern Pennsylvania to upstate New York and became a homemaker. In 1969, after Harry was permanently disabled in an accident, Libby worked as a caregiver at a children’s home to support her family. Despite the challenges they faced, Libby always did her best to care for those she loved.

After being widowed in 1994, Libby adapted to her new life, finding joy in her involvement with the senior center, church, and volunteering for Meals on Wheels. As Alzheimer's took these pleasures away from her, she found great joy in spending time outdoors in nature.

Libby was known for her strong commitment and passionate love for her family. Whether it was staying up all night caring for a sick daughter, working to provide for her loved ones, or hopping on a train to travel across the state to watch her grandchildren, she was always there when needed. The greatest gift Libby gave her family was her unwavering faith — a faith that not only led to the conversion of her husband to the Catholic Church, but also continues to offer strength and comfort to her family throughout her illness and in the wake of her passing.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the following individuals and organizations: Joseph Calovic, her nephew, forcalling and sending cards throughout the years and for being an invaluable support to the family; Fran Day and Debbie, of Day’s Personal Care Home, for their exceptional care and guidance through the challenges of caring for an elderly parent; the staff at Kane Community Living Center-Scott, especially Janet, Sherry, Michele, Marty, Maureen, Emily, Kelly, Bryan, Chris and Bill, for their outstanding care and emotional support; and Bridges Hospice, especially Lynne, Ed and Chaplain Denise, for their compassion and care.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kane Community Living Center-Scott or Bridges Hospice. Arrangements entrusted to WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, Scott Twp. 412-563-2800. www.slaterfuneral.com
