Eileen B. McNichol (nee Sweeney) left us peacefully on April 21, 2024 at the age of 82. She was born on February 9, 1942 in the small village of Barnacogue in County Mayo near the West Coast of Ireland. In 1958, at the age of 16, she followed her sister and moved to New York City. Eileen later began a career at the First National City Bank in Manhattan. In the early 60’s, she met a young lawyer named Jack McNichol. They were married in the fall of 1962 and settled in the borough of Queens. In 1964, they started a family and eventually moved to the suburb of Huntington on Long Island. They raised their son and daughter there and after retiring in 1999, they followed their children to their adopted hometown of Pittsburgh to be near their grandchildren. They settled in Mt. Lebanon. Eileen made many great friends there and was active in local politics and volunteered at St. Clair hospital and the Mt. Lebanon Public Library when she wasn’t busy being a fantastic Grandmother. She enjoyed visiting her homeland of Ireland frequently, having her family for Sunday dinners at her home, and hosting St. Patrick’s Day parties for her neighbors, which were legendary.
Eileen will be deeply missed by her husband of 62 years, John (Jack) McNichol; her 2 children, Dan (Roseann) McNichol and Allison (Huw) Carey; her grandchildren, Ryan McNichol, Timothy (Kirsten) McNichol, Meaghan McNichol, Lauren Carey, and Amelia Carey; and her great grandson, Jack McNichol. She will also be missed by her sister, Angela (Cathal) Henry; her brother, Thomas Sweeney; as well as her many nieces and nephews and countless friends and neighbors. Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Sweeney and Ellen Sweeney (nee Peyton); her brother, John Sweeney; and her sisters, Kathleen Scanlon, Mary Jacobs, and Ann Gordon.
All are welcome Sunday April 28, 2024, 2-4 and 6-8 PM, WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp., 412-563-2800. Her burial will be held at a later date in her beloved Ireland.
