Age 71, of Mount Washington, on Sunday, September 4, 2016. He was born in McKeesport on September 30, 1944, the son of the late Edward R. and Dorothy A. (Clintner) Whalen. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Donna (Whalen) Carroll. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Kathy (Bechtol) Whelan of Mount Washington; and sisters, Patricia Kenney (Charles) of Plum Borough and Maureen (Thomas) Schumacher of North Huntingdon. He is also survived by seven nieces. He spent most of his career as Northeast District Sales Manager for Teledyne Firth Sterling and retired from Teledyne Metalworking Products. A graduate of McKeesport High School, he attended Duquesne University, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Phi fraternity and majored in partying and pinochle. His interest over the years included golfing, piloting a small plane, boating on the ocean near Mystic Seaport and his Irish heritage.
