Age 78, of Green Tree, was called to his Heavenly home, with his wife by his side on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021. Beloved husband and best friend to Eileen (Caito) Engel, whom he cherished and was married to for 58 years (next October 5th). Loving father and role model to his sons Stephen and Matthew Engel; brother to Dorothy Reese, Michael (Shirley) Engel, Joseph Engel, William Engel, and James (Jacqueline) Engel; preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hazel Engel; sister, Mary Meyers; and brothers, Richard and David Engel; brother-in-law to Dorothy Engel, Joseph Meyers, Grace and Joseph Amorose. Most favorite uncle of many nieces and nephews. Those fortunate enough to know Eddie were always greeted with a contagious smile and a hearty bear hug. The satisfying kind of hug, that made you feel safe and special. Kind and generous, he went out of his way to lend a helping hand to others... family, friends, and strangers alike. Before retirement, he was employed as a mechanic at Don Allen Chevrolet, Pittsburgh Press and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette where he was known as a dedicated employee, who loved to joke with his co-workers. Besides spending time with his family, Eddie enjoyed football games, listening to oldies, gospel and country music, and putting 1000-piece puzzles together. He was famous for making delicious pecan tassies, which he happily shared, and he enjoyed painting various scenic oil paintings. Eddie was a good soul. A bright and shining light. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family and will stay loved in our hearts forever.
