Edward A. Bittner Jr.

April 8, 1955 — September 23, 2025

Upper St. Clair

Edward August Bittner Jr. passed away at the age of 70 on September 23, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family. He was the beloved husband of Deborah for 40 years and the devoted father of Catherine (David) Capor, Kristin (Andrew) Blankemeyer, Edward III (Alison), and Ryan. He was the proud Pap of Jacob, Josie, Brooke, Maria, Elise, Connor, Patrick, Nicolas, Zachary, and Sadie. Edward was the son of Joan and the late Edward Sr., the dear brother of Terry and brother-in-law of the late Leslie, and brother-in-law of Steven and Laura Fritts and Thomas Fritts. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends who will miss him dearly. Ed attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his J.D. and began what would become a distinguished legal career. Over the years at Reed Smith and later at Highmark, he was admired for his dedication, steady leadership, and unwavering integrity. He will be missed as a trusted colleague and friend to many, leaving a mark that extended well beyond his professional accomplishments. After retiring in 2022, Ed was able to spend even more time doing what he loved most — being with his family. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Deb, cherished visits with his children, and never missed a chance to cheer from the sidelines at his grandchildren’s games and activities. Hilton Head Island remained a favorite destination, where family vacations were filled with laughter and cherished traditions. He also had a deep appreciation for history and theater, and loved touring historical sites, attending musicals, and visiting lighthouses wherever he went. A lifelong Steelers fan, he enjoyed collecting memorabilia and creating a Steelers-themed basement — a space built for his children and grandchildren to gather and enjoy for years to come. Ed will be remembered for his selflessness, humor, intellect and the deep affection he held for his family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
