Of Pittsburgh, after a brief illness, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at age 72. son of the late Chester F. and Josephine H. (Malik) Warren; father of Deborah J. McWhirter of Westport, CT and Eric E. Warren of Pittsburgh; grandfather of Morgan and Erin McWhirter of Westport, CT. An alumnus of Duquesne University, Earl served briefly as a Pittsburgh Police Officer prior to fulfilling military obligations. He served proudly in the United States Army as Captain and later retired as Lieutenant Colonel. Following his military service, he held administrative positions with the State as well as teaching positions at Penn State University, and most recently taught Ancient and American History at CCAC Monroeville and Washington County. Some years ago, he also tried his hand as a restaurateur in owning and operating The Penn Street Cafe in Huntingdon, PA. Earl especially enjoyed his travels to Eastern Europe, the Middle East and trips to Florida in winter. He had a keen appreciation of antiquities and collected many antiques and artwork over the years. Earl will be greatly missed by his brother, Chester J. Warren (Joanne) of Green Tree; sisters, Charlotte M. Kovacs (Keith) of Houston, TX, and Ruth J. Felix (Norman) of Vermilion, OH; special Aunt, Helen Wasserman of Mt. Lebanon; dear friend and companion, Barbara Hughes of Mt. Lebanon; nieces and nephews, Paul Warren of Green Tree, Jennifer Neuhaus of Katy, TX, Jeff Kovacs and Jessica Lucas of Houston, TX, Justin Felix of Bound Brook, NJ and Chad Felix of Dallas, GA.
