Age 67, of Scott Township, passed on Sunday, November 15, 2015 after a prolonged illness. The daughter of Adam and Florence (Seneca) Spitznagel, and the sister of John and the late Adam Spitznagel, Doris reveled in the lively exchange of ideas. As a teacher at Carlynton High School for 35 years, she taught German and Honors English and led class trips to Germany. Like her father, Doris was a talented pianist, and taught private piano lessons from her home. When her illness made it impossible for her to work full-time, she turned her efforts to her family and community. An active member of St. Simon and Jude parish in Greentree, Doris found purpose and meaning and peace in ministering to the sick, comforting the grieving, and feeding the hungry. She gave generously of her time and talents in the service of the Lord, and her faithful and determined spirit embodied God's grace for all who had the privilege to know her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Florence (Seneca) Spitznagel, and by her brother, Adam (Marlane) Spitznagel, of Belle Vernon. She is survived by her brother John (Sue Gura) Spitznagel; nieces and nephews Jane (Mike) Ley, Michael (Jill) Spitznagel, Anna (Derrick) Gaines, Adam (Tiffany) Spitznagel, Julie (Eric) Zubovic, Martin (Jessica) Spitznagel, and Mark Spitznagel; and thirteen grandnieces and nephews.
