Deane Walker Hillegass, age 96, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, at the Masonic Village in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. Born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, Deane was the beloved son of Nevin and Ruth Hillegass. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jay, and his cherished wife of 52 years, Mary Jean. Deane is survived by his sister, Helen Ann Knepper of Massachusetts, his son, Craig Hillegass of Colorado, and his daughter, Terri Keeney, of West Virginia. He leaves behind a legacy through his five grandchildren – Joshua, Lindsey, Caroline, Kimberly, and Emily – and twelve great grandchildren who brought joy to his life. He will be deeply missed by numerous relatives and friends.
A proud alumnus of the University of Cincinnati, Deane earned a degree in Civil Engineering before serving his country with honor in the United States Army for two years. His professional career was marked by significant achievements, including a distinguished 30 year tenure with the Sika Corporation, where he rose to the positions of Vice President of Sika US and President of Sika Canada.
Deane was a dedicated member of the Pennsylvania Masonic Fraternity, achieving the rank of Master Mason and maintaining a remarkable 70 year membership. In retirement, he found fulfillment and happiness at the Masonic Village, where he actively participated in numerous committees, created lasting friendships, enjoyed playing golf, and cherished visits with his children and grandchildren.
Deane Walker Hillegass will be remembered for his kindness, positive energy, unwavering dedication to his family, his professional accomplishments, and his lifelong commitment to the Masonic principles. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
