On Saturday, April 2, 2016, of Whitehall. Beloved husband of the late Carol A. (Henne) Nicklas; loving father of Dotti (Jeff) Wood and Dr. Debbie (Jeff) Snyder; cherished grandfather of Zachary, Marissa and Amanda Wood, Bryce, Grace and Abbey Snyder; brother of the late Donna Bier and the late Irv Nicklas; uncle of Norman Bier; cousin/sister of Cheri (Chuck) Rose; dear friend of Peggy Helms; uncle to several nieces and nephews. Dave was born and raised in Duquesne Heights, Pittsburgh, in the same home where he later raised his own children. Dave graduated from South Hills High School in 1960. He served in the US Air Force as a Military Policeman, touring in Spain. He was honorably discharged in 1964. He started as a streetcar driver for the Port Authority of Allegheny County as a young man and was proud that he knew every street in Pittsburgh. He worked his way up the corporate ladder at the Port Authority and held a position in administration prior to his retirement. After retirement, he kept active by earning his real estate license and worked for 12 years at Achieve Reality. He was an avid Steelers fan. He loved to travel. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren. No one enjoyed family gatherings more than Dave. He was active in many clubs including the Masonic Lodge #45 (since 1964), the Cinosam Club, the American Legion, Syria Shriner's of Pittsburgh (since 1981) and the Constitution Club. Dave lived a long and full life, although we wish we had him with us longer.
