Daniel Raymond Garwig of Upper St. Clair, PA peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at the age of 64. Born in Akron, OH on September 17, 1960 and raised in Potomac, MD before moving to Pittsburgh and graduating from Upper St. Clair High School in 1978, Dan was the youngest of Raymond and Grace Garwig’s three children.
Dan was passionate about his friends and family, sports, travel, food, music, and career. A rare transfer from WVU to the University of Pittsburgh, Dan quickly became involved on staff for the late, Honorable Senator John Heinz. From the Senator’s office, he pivoted to stints with the Republican Committee of Allegheny County and the National Flag Foundation before settling in as an Advertising Account Executive with Krome Communications for 16 years.
Dan did not find a sport that he did not like, and involving his family with those sports brought him so much joy. He was an avid golfer and golf fanatic, as well as a beloved football, basketball, and baseball parent and youth coach. He loved horse racing and frequently took his wife and children on trips to Mountaineer RaceTrack & Casino. Add good food to the family and sports equation, and he found pure bliss. From his early 20s and beyond, he attended or watched nearly every Steelers game - and for away games you could frequently find him cooking the local cuisine of said Steelers’ opponents.
With his wife Patty, he was always looking for the opportunity to travel and/or find a concert by rock music legends. Among their favorite destinations were the Grand Canyon, Stone Harbor/Avalon, Puerto Vallarta, and several college football destinations across the country.
Across Dan’s entire life, he was most proud of his role as Dad to his sons and Husband to his wife. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Susan Garwig, and is survived by his wife Patty and sons Alex and Casey of Upper St. Clair, PA; sister Janice (Steve) Lang of Abington, PA; and nephews Dan (Emily) Lang of Roanoke, VA and Andrew (Sarah) Lang of Boise, ID. He had cherished relationships with many close brother-and-sister-in-laws and their children.
