Age 87m of Dormont, died suddenly Saturday, June 17, 2017. Son of the late Joseph and Edna (Rosenberger) Hays; beloved husband of Lucille (Capozzi Stabile); loving father of Alan (Suzi) Hays, Pamela (Jeff) Kanter; stepfather of Darlene (Rich) Checca, Diane (Chuck) Veri, and Nancy (Tim) Schultz; Cy was also blessed with 12 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren; brother of the late John Hays, Joe Hays, Alma Liggett, and Rita Hofer. Cy was employed at J & L Steel for 30 years, was the owner of South Hills Music Center in Dormont, and worked at Volkwein's Music Center for many years. Cy was a professional musician (alto saxophone, clarinet, and piano) and was a member of the Pittsburgh Musical Society for over 70 years. He studied with world renowned saxophonists, Max Adkins, and graduated from the Navy School of Music in 1951. In the late 40's before entering the service he played with many of the major big bands in the city as well as on the road. In the service, he served 13 months in Korea with the combat Engineers and played with the Army Band until his discharge. Cy played with and arranged music for several bands and orchestras including the Pittsburgh Concert Jazz Orchestra and was honored to tour Italy with the MPI Band to play for the Pope. He was also known around Pittsburgh Area as a member of the popular duo "Bob and Cy". His passion for music was passed on to many students in the area.
