Cheryl Walters Smith was born on June 19, 1968 in Pittsburgh, PA to Arthur and Lois Walters. Cheryl grew up in Mt. Lebanon, PA with her only brother Glenn. As a child she enjoyed reading, listening to music with friends, summer camping adventures to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and spending time and drinking coffee with her Grandpa. She graduated from Wittenberg University in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in East Asian's Studies. After graduation, she began a career in the travel industry working for Travel King in Pittsburgh. As a travel agent, Cheryl pursued her passion for planning. Cheryl married Timothy W. Smith on June 13, 1992. Cheryl and Tim were blessed with two children, Zachary born in 1994 and Benjamin born in 1998. After her two children entered school, Cheryl returned to work as a Church administrator for the First Presbyterian Church of Finleyville, located in Finleyville, PA. After residing in South Park, PA for 25 years Cheryl and Tim moved to the Houston, Texas in the summer of 2017, following Ben's graduation from high school. Cheryl never lost her love for reading, learning, trips to the beach, and coffee. After moving to Houston Cheryl became a volunteer at the Houston SPCA where she could care for her four-legged friends. Cheryl had an unwavering faith, and loved her time learning and socializing with her various Book Club and Bible Study friends. She loved her family and friends. Most of all Cheryl loved being a mom.
Cheryl earned her wings on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, in Houston, Texas at the age of 53. She passed peacefully with Tim, Zach, and Ben by her side. She is survived by her husband, Timothy W. Smith of Cypress Texas; sons, Zachary Smith (Nicholle) of Bel Air, Maryland, and Benjamin Smith of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and brother, Glenn Walters of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation for Cheryl will be held at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE (412-563-2800), 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp., 15220, Friday August 6 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at Covenant Community Presbyterian Church located on Greentree Road on Saturday August 7 at 11:00 AM.
