Charles Edward "Chuck" Weaver

December 24, 1940 — December 23, 2023

Charles E. Weaver, 82, passed away peacefully at his home on December 23rd, 2023, in the company of his loving family.

Born December 24th, 1940, in Greensburg, PA, he was the eldest son of the late Charles O. and Anna (Hensler) Weaver.  He was raised in North Irwin and often reminisced of his idyllic small-town childhood.  Chuck graduated from Irwin High School in 1958.  He attended California State College (PA), where he was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity and earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.  Initially a math teacher, he later obtained a postgraduate business degree from Duquesne University.  He worked as an analyst with US Steel and an Office Manager for Hon Furniture, where he met his wife, Fran.  Most of his career was focused on computers and data systems technology for Blue Cross Blue Shield.  He retired from Highmark Inc. as a Technical Consultant in 2006.

Chuck was an avid sports fan.  He loyally supported all the local Pittsburgh teams and Notre Dame football.  He was particularly passionate about the Steelers.   In 1975, he witnessed their first Super Bowl victory in New Orleans.  Summers were spent at Forbes Field and Three Rivers Stadium cheering the Pirates. Later, at Spinner Field and Scott Park he taught the game to his sons.  He kept a meticulous scorebook.  He always had time for a catch.  Golf was his favorite hobby, however.  He played in a league at Frosty Valley in Upper St. Clair for many years.  Memorably, he once won a new car, a 1989 Chevy Blazer, by hitting a hole-in-one during a charity golf outing.

Chuck was a humble man of hidden talents.  Always well read, he was a trivia savant.  He had an uncanny ability to memorize dates and numbers.  His wonderful sense of humor blended wit and sarcasm with sufficient slapstick.  An underrated cook, he shined in the big moments.  Thanksgiving turkey, Easter ham and New Years pork for ‘good luck.’  On restful weekends, he enjoyed making breakfast for his boys.  He fried perfect dippy eggs.  For decades, he tended an abundant backyard garden overflowing with fresh tomatoes and zucchini.  Later in life, he developed an affinity for birdwatching.  Quiet days in retirement were spent relaxing on the back deck of the family home until sunset; admiring nature and reflecting on life well lived.

Above all else, Chuck was a devoted family man.  His core characteristic was unwavering and unconditional love for his wife of 43 years, Fran.  He was a kind and benevolent father, generous with his time and his wisdom.  His overwhelming affection for his grandchildren often rendered him speechless.  He always put family first, above his own self-interests.

Chuck is survived by his beloved wife, Frances (Ksiazek) Weaver, whom he married on August 9th, 1980; two sons, Kenneth and Christian Weaver of Pittsburgh; two grandsons, John Charles ‘Jack’ and James Weaver of Pittsburgh; sister Susanne Weaver of Texas; and sister-in-law Paula (Macabobby) Weaver of Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard D. Weaver.

There are no calling hours or services planned.  Chuck was a compassionate man of faith and noble ideals who inspired admiration from all who loved him.  He was a loving husband, father and ‘grandpap.’  He will be dearly missed and remembered always.
