Charles Raymond "Chuck" Fitz, MD, age 81, after a brief illness, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019 surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was one of the founders of Pediatric Neuroradiology, a renowned educator in that field, and professor of radiology at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He attended the University of Michigan Medical School and trained in Radiology in Philadelphia and Toronto. He held teaching positions at several major medical centers including Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto) , Children's National Hospital (Washington, DC) before coming the Pittsburgh in 1991. His love of teaching led him to train many Medical students, Residents and Fellows over the years. Among his former trainees are academic leaders in the fields of Neuroradiology and Pediatric Interventional Radiology.
His interests outside of medicine included world-wide travel, wine, and driving fast. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Anna Rusztyn-Fitz, brother Arthur "Bud", and sister-in-law Lois, daughter Auben, son Eric and daughter-in-law Kelly, grandchildren Evangeline and Fred, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at William Slater II Funeral Home, 1650 Greentree Rd, on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 2pm until 8pm. Saturday morning from 9-11, a memorial service will follow.
