Cecelia L. “ Cel” (Egan) Mazzarini,
Went to be with the Lord in the mansion he prepared for her on Thursday, October 19, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Allen Mazzarini. Loving mother of James (Teresa) Mazzarini, Karen Perlongo, Richard (the late Christina), Linda and Amanda Mazzarini. Cherished Grandmother of Derek (Jessica) Haerr, Nicholas (Kati), Bradley (Joclyn), Timothy Mazzarini, Kaitlyn, Delaney, Riannon Perlongo and the late Joseph. Beloved sister of Michael (Mary Pat), David (Barbara) and the late Richard, Howard, Joan, Daniel, Charles, Catherine and Paul Egan.
Cel was very involved during her lifetime with many social organizations. She was at various times, a lector, usher, Eucharistic minister, choir member, Vacation Bible School teacher and served on many committees in all of the churches that she held membership in.
One of the first female Cub Masters, she also served the Boy Scouts as a den mother, den leader coach, and committee member. An assistant leader to the Girl Scouts was another of the many hats that she wore. Other activities that kept her busy was membership in the WHAA baseball/softball organization. She also was a band mother for Brashear High School. Mrs Mazzarini appeared several times before the school board of Pittsburgh, regarding the keeping of neighborhood schools and then to fight for proper busing of the students. The PTA and other school groups were some of the other pies, she kept her hand in. One of the biggest thrills in Cel’s life was singing in the Billy Graham choir at Three Rivers Stadium. For many years she was proud to work for the Election Board as a Constable and/or the Minority Leader. For three years, her work with the Mt. Washington News, a weekly newspaper, allowed her to report the news and write a “Cel’s Column”, which was a newsy collection of neighbors and family occurrences and happenings. As her children grew, Cecelia turned her energies to gardening and was passionate about her back yard. Her greatest joy were her 8 Grandchildren.
Family and friends welcome Tuesday 2-8 pm WM. SLATER & SONS INC (412-381-3345) 301 Virginia Ave., Mt Washington 15211. Funeral Mass Wednesday 10:00 am in Mary Queen of Peace Parish, St. Mary of the Mount Church. Burial to follow in Chartiers Cemetery.
