Age 88, of Beechview, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 29, 2025. Loving husband of 63 years of Mary Ann Gonot (Pesavento); beloved father of Carolyn Gonot (Jeff Moore), Pamela Diulus (Gregory), C. Joseph Gonot, and Douglas J. Gonot (Kerri); cherished grandfather of Abigail, Dominic, Hannah, Kiera, Grant, and Drew; and brother of James Gonot (the late Evalia) and the late Ronald and Joseph Gonot. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A proud member of the first graduating class of Wheeling College earning a Bachelor degree in History —he remained a supporter of his alma mater and embodied the spirit of a true alumnus. While receiving his Master degree in Education from Duquesne University, Carmen began his lifelong career as an educator at St. Mary of the Mount School in Pittsburgh, enjoying a career that spanned a number of local colleges, tech schools and universities, eventually teaching computer sciences and retiring from Pittsburgh Public Schools primary and secondary education.
A true sports aficionado, Carmen had an encyclopedic knowledge of them – both college and professional – but particularly professional baseball, and could dazzle anyone with his insights and recollections. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball in Dormont and local basketball clubs and, later in life, providing pointers to his grandchildren while with Mary Ann attending many of their various sporting events.
Carmen was an active member of the Lucchessi Nel Mondo Club. He was a fierce but joyful competitor at the annual Deluca family reunion, where he had long hoped to win the bocce tournament—a dream fulfilled in 2017 when he triumphed alongside his grandsons. Carmen also found simple delight in quiet breakfasts at local cafés, always locating one no matter where he traveled, and his wife Mary Ann knowing he was taking these moments of “me” time.
Carmen’s most notable characteristic was how he cherished family gatherings and the importance they held and always remembering those who were not able to be present. His stories of growing up in Ohio, his college days and everyday life adventures never failed to bring laughter and connection. Above all, Carmen’s greatest pride was his long marriage, the accomplishments of his children and the bonds he shared with his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy. His welcoming heart extended to anyone embraced by his family, offering kindness and inclusion without hesitation, and always leaving an impression on anyone who met him. His warmth, humility, and storytelling made him unforgettable—and his legacy lives on in the laughter, love, and memories he helped create.
