Aged 62, of Mercer, on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. Beloved son of Don and the late Polly Walter. Loving husband of the late Sheila Walter; father of Donald James Walter (Sarah); grandfather of McKenzie and Presley; brother of Gail (Dan) Durachko, Carol (Mike) Wallace, and Kenneth (Kathy Miller) Walter; brother-in-law of Dick (Kathy) McCormick, Pat (Toni) McCormick, Linda McCormick, Jake McCormick, Mary (Don) McNeal, and Joan (John) Sweeney; uncle of many nieces and nephews; and nephew of June and Lloyd Grace.
Carl was baptized and confirmed at Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church, now Unity Presbyterian Church, where he enjoyed youth club. He played little league baseball, middle school football, enjoyed scouting, and was a lifeguard at Greentree Pool. At Keystone Oaks High School, he played trombone in the marching, concert, and jazz bands and was a four-year letterman in swimming. Carl was most valuable swimmer his senior year. He attended Grove City College for three years where he was on the swim team and graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Carl worked for many years for Grove City Paving and briefly for GE in Grove City where they made locomotive engines.
Carl loved remodeling and maintaining his home and property and hosting his chicken roast with hayrides and fishing in Lake Sheila. At home, he was rarely without a dog at his side. Carl was a Steeler seasons ticket holder and loved to tailgate. He also enjoyed motor sports and the movies Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles. Most importantly, Carl was truly blessed with many great friends.
