Calvin, 92, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, December 7, 2025.
A devoted husband and proud father, formerly of the Mt Washington neighborhood, Calvin is now joyfully reunited with his beloved wife, Janet, who preceded him in death earlier this year. The couple shared a remarkable 70-year marriage, a true testament to their enduring love.
Born September 7, 1933 and raised in the West End neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Calvin began his long and dedicated career at the Kress paper company, where he mastered the trade of printing. He remained with the company until his retirement at the age of 63, continuing through its acquisitions by St. Regis and later Georgia Pacific.
Calvin was first introduced to Janet on a blind date, and they were later married in 1954. Together, they built a beautiful life and large family.
Calvin was a man of many talents and simple pleasures. He was a gifted gardener, growing such an abundance of tomatoes and zucchinis that he often shared the overflowing harvest with family and friends. He also had a passion for woodworking and refinishing, frequently attending estate sales to find furniture he could artfully repurpose and build. A true Pittsburgher, he was an avid fan of both the Steelers and the Pirates.
Calvin leaves behind a rich legacy through his four children: Daniel, John, Susan, and Judy; his eleven grandchildren: Maura, Meghan, Michelle, Bobbi, Michael, Erin, Stephen, Brian, Sharon, Cassandra, and Nicholas and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his entire family, whose lives he enriched with his dedication, hard work, love and modest yet insightful wit.
Calvin is predeceased by his brother James Perry and his sister Ellen Smith.
