Betty Clare Mathie, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, at the age of 86.
Betty Clare began her life in Black Ridge, PA, near the Churchill Country Club. She graduated from Seton Hill College and began her career at Western Psych Hospital. One summer at Lake Edinboro, she met Tom, whom she later married, while watching him learn to waterski. Betty Clare dedicated her life to creating a warm and loving home, raising her husband and four children, beloved dogs, and countless goldfish won at the CMU Tech Fair.
A woman of faith and community, Betty Clare spent many Sundays attending church and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers at home games. Her elaborate tailgates were a beloved tradition enjoyed by many friends. Betty Clare was also a huge Pittsburgh Penguins fan, attending many games at the Igloo. She was also an accomplished watercolor painter and an active member of the Pittsburgh Athletic Association Women's Bowling team for many years.
Betty Clare is survived by her loving husband Tom and her four children: John Mathie, Colleen Salladay, Brian Mathie (Jennifer Berry), and Thomas Mathie (Laurie Wincko). She is also survived by her sister, Suzanne O'Neill, and her deceased brother, James Lauble (Erma Lauble), as well as her cherished grandchildren: Susan and Liz Mathie, Brad, Jimmy, and Nick Salladay, Ben and Emma Mathie, and Evelyn Mathie.
Family and friends welcome on Sunday, July 6, 2025 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE (412-563-2800) 1650 Greentree Rd, Scott Twp. 15220. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025 at St.Raphael the Archangel Parish, St. Margaret of Scotland Church at 10:00 am. Entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
