Barbara Danver

d. December 2, 2020

The Danver Family encourages Pittsburgh to lift a glass this evening and toast the life of Barbara Danver, who joined her beloved husband Milt in God's Kingdom on December 2. The second child of Mary and Andrew Evans, Barb began her journey on May 16, 1934. A lifelong Pittsburgher, she grew up in the Brighton Heights section of the city and attended Oliver High School, where she was recognized in the Pittsburgh Sun Telegraph as being the top student in the Spring, 1952 Oliver graduating class. During her senior year at Oliver, Barb and her future husband co-starred in the class play "The Whole Town Is Talking." After high school, she attended Chatham College and The University of Pittsburgh, earning both undergraduate and graduate degrees in education. In June of 1957, Barb married her high school sweetheart, Milt Danver, in the chapel at Chatham College. Over the years, while taking care of her family, she taught mathematics at both North Hills and Mount Lebanon School Districts and at Community College of Allegheny County. She was a passionate bridge player, a winner on the tennis court, loved to scratch instant lottery tickets, had a "green thumb" in the garden, and the April Fool's Day pranks she played on her husband were legendary. After Milt's retirement in 1991, she settled in to being a grandma and travelled extensively with her family. Barb is survived by a son, Drew (Arlene), and granddaughter, Melanie. Instead of a memorial service, the family asks that you remember Barb in your thoughts, meditations, and prayers. Drew and his family wish to thank the heroes at the Providence Point Memory Support and Healthcare Units as well as Three Rivers Hospice who loved and cared for Barb for the past several years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to either the Providence Point Employee Appreciation Fund (500 Providence Point Blvd, Pittsburgh PA 15243) or Three Rivers Hospice (300 Oxford Drive, Monroeville, PA 15146). Arrangements entrusted to William Slater II Funeral Service, Scott Twp. www.slaterfuneral.com
