Arthur C. Schock, of Asbury Heights, formerly of Moon Township and Bethel Park, passed away on July 27, 2023. He was 96 years young. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris E. Schock and Arthur G. Schock, his sister Betty Macy, and his beloved wife of 69 years, Emily A. Schock. Art is survived by his devoted children Dwight A. Schock (Patricia Ohlinger), Barbara J. Schock, and Donald C. Schock (Janet Eisenhauer); grandchildren Bret (Becky), Samuel, Julia, and Gregory; and great-grandson, Carson. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and subsequently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. As a highly respected professional engineer in private practice, running his consulting business for 37 years, he designed mechanical systems for numerous buildings in the Pittsburgh region. He was a member of the Coraopolis United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. His many interests included skippering the family sailboats; teaching celestial navigation for the South Hills Power Squadron; skiing local slopes from the early days of Seven Springs, then on to Vermont and Colorado; and doing calculus problems for fun. He was a runner and an avid member of the Downtown YMCA in its heyday. A drummer in a novelty band in his teens (Slim Jim Puhl and his Mountain Jewels), and a life-long fan of Big Bands from the 30’s and 40’s, his love of music grew into avid support for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Opera, the Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society, the Pittsburgh Ballet, and WQED-FM. An optimistic man of great intelligence, integrity, devotion to family, good humor, with a smile and a twinkle in his eyes, he will be missed by all who knew him. The family thanks the staff at Asbury Heights for their professional care during Art’s final years. Memorial and interment will be private. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity. Arrangements entrusted to WM. SLATER & SONS INC. Mt. Washington (412-381-3345).
